The Siskiyou Wanderers are a great group of hikers who hit the trail Every Thursday and would like you to join them. Here’s the March, 2011 schedule:
Mar 3: Sand Flat Snowshoe and/or Ski: Plan to cross country ski or snowshoe in this beautiful winter wonderland. Otherwise, hike where it is dry in the Mt. Shasta area.
AD: 5-7 miles THE: ~6,000′ AEG: ~500’/1000′ PMP: Mt. Shasta Fish Hatchery T: 9:00 am.
Mar 10: Colestin Road: An alternative road hike Richard suggested last year due to poor weather conditions on the PCT. We’ll hike Colestin Rd north-west of Hilt in the beautiful Cottonwood Creek drainage crossing over into Oregon. I even have a little map of the road!
AD: 5-10 miles THE: 2500’+/- est AEG: a little PMP: Yreka Mall T: 9:00 am.
Mar 17: Castle Lake: Let’s cross county ski and/or snowshoe up to this beautiful little cirque lake. Last year we were able to park at the Methodist Camp (about 2 miles from the lake) Hopefully the weather will be a little more agreeable this year. Don’t forget to wear green!
AD: 4-6 miles THE:5,440′ AEG: 900′ PMP: Mt. Shasta Fish Hatchery T: 9:00 am.
Mar 24: Little Castle Creek: View Castle Crag from the north side. Walk up dirt roads along Little Castle Creek from the Railroad Park Motel.
AD: 6 miles THE: 2,350′ AEG: 1000′ PMP: Mt. Shasta Fish Hatchery T: 9:00 am.
Mar 31: Shasta Valley Wildlife Refuge: Popular hike among birders. Expect mud and hope sunshine. Your four footed companions must be leashed. Bring your bird book and binoculars. Maybe we’ll get to see the albino deer.
