The Mount Shasta Trail Association invites you on a 7-mile round trip hike to Toad Lake and Porcupine Lake in the Eddy Mountains Saturday, August 18th. To reach the trailhead, participants will be carpooling 11 miles on a gravel road. Initially, the hike is a moderate uphill walk for a short distance and then is mostly level with gentle up and downs. Hikers will first come to Toad Lake at 6,900 feet, south of Mt. Eddy, set in a rock bowl carved by glacial action. The hikers will then climb up to the Pacific Crest Trail at 7,600 feet and walk along it to the junction of the Sisson Callahan Trail. From this scenic spot, the hike will go to Porcupine Lake which has an absolutely pristine setting.
Meeting place is 111 Morgan Way, Mt Shasta, the street in front of the Best Western Tree House Motor Inn (near Ray’s) at 9 am. Bring lunch and water. Bring your bathing suit for a refreshing swim. Participants will return about 4 pm.
