The Mount Shasta Trail Association invites the public on a moderate 6 mile round trip hike Saturday, September 17, along Mud Creek Canyon to Clear Creek Meadows on the southeast side of Mt. Shasta. There is a steady 2,000 foot elevation gain starting in an old growth Shasta Red Fir forest which then opens up to views that become more and more spectacular. The trail heads between the Konwokiton and Wintun Glaciers (the third largest in California). Mud Creek Falls, the largest falls on Mt. Shasta can be seen across the mile wide canyon. Shastarama Point and Thumb Rock and the upper reaches of Mt. Shasta are in sight as well, making a breathtaking view. Wildflowers are abundant in this stunning volcanic basin.
