Please join us for another presentation in our series of informative and enjoyable slide shows about culture, travel and adventure on Tuesday, Nov. 1st, 2011 at Mt. Shasta Resort Highland Room (upstairs) at 7 PM. A $5 donation is requested. Everyone has turkey on their mind this month, but we are not talking about the bird. At the next slide show you will have the opportunity to learn about traveling the exotic country of Turkey.
In April and May, 2010 Linda Roddy and Mike Hupp spent 5 weeks touring Turkey’s Aegean-Mediterranean coast and the Cappadocia region using folding bicycles, a gulet (a 40-50 foot commercial yacht), ferries, a rented scooter and public buses. Traveling on their own with Linda’s trusty Lonely Planet Guide and no fixed schedule, they were able to adapt their plans and travel the countryside. Throughout the trip, they stayed in small pansiyons (a Turkish bed and breakfast) that provided great meals and information about things to see and do in the local neighborhood. Every place they traveled, the Turkish people were friendly and helpful. Language was not a barrier, though there were some interesting ”conversations” in more remote villages. When they were lost in small towns (which happened often), someone always stepped up and helped them find their way.
