Books and maps are great tools for planning hikes prior to an outing, or reviewing where you were after a hike or ride. Locally, your best sources for these materials are the following three outlets:
The Fifth Season is a complete outdoor store with equipment, rentals, maps and books. They are located at 300 North Mt. Shasta Blvd. Here’s a link to their website: Fifth Season.
Secondly, the Mount Shasta Ranger Station of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest has a fantastic front desk, staffed with knowledgeable people that can answer questions and a good supply of books and maps. The station is located at 204 West Alma Street. Here’s a link to their website: Ranger Station.
Regarding maps, the trail guides on our website include maps for most of the trails. Thus, you can print up those maps, or even view them on a smart phone. Simply hold your cursor over the Trail Guides tab at the top of this page and a drop down menu will appear for the trails. Also, the Hike Mt. Shasta website includes maps with each of its trail descriptions. That website is found at: hikemtshasta.com.
Our preference is that you support our local businesses when you shop. However, should you choose to shop online, remember that purchases made through Amazon Smile will dedicate 0.5% of the purchase to the Trail Association. Its important that you designate the MSTA as your chosen charity. Here’s the link: https://smile.amazon.com/
